Skoda Octavia seeks more fun and power for 2017
To take on the new year with strength, the Skoda Octavia will benefit from several changes, both in terms of equipment and engines. It incorporates a new three-cylinder 1.0-litre unit that replaces the 1.2-litre engine that was in the range until now.

As we approach the midpoint of 2016, the time comes when manufacturers get ready to prepare their most iconic models for the coming year. Work is done to improve the specifications of these models, aiming to remain among buyers’ favourites, with small changes and added details to stand out from their rivals. The Skoda Octavia is one of these models that will benefit from modifications and will reach 2017 with a new engine and specifications.
The 1.2-litre petrol engine has been replaced by a new three-cylinder TSI unit, which, with a displacement of 999 cc, delivers a power output of 115 CV and a maximum torque of 200 Nm between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm. This is the first engine of these characteristics to be used in the model in its 20 years of history, so the company has worked hard to make it as suitable as possible for propelling the car.
The Skoda Octavia’s engine is paired with a seven-speed DSG gearbox, although it can also be bought with a six-speed manual gearbox. In the first case, the saloon version achieves an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in ten seconds. With the manual gearbox, this drops to 9.9 seconds, a minimal difference, but one that breaks through the barrier represented by the previous figure. The estate version reaches 100 km/h in 10.2 and 10.1 seconds, respectively.

Fuel savings and lower emissions
Despite these figures for power and acceleration, the new Octavia engine delivers considerable fuel savings, estimated at 8% below the engine it replaces. In total figures, the saloon version has a consumption of 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres and emissions of 103 g/km, while the estate version has a consumption of 4.6 litres/100 km and emissions of 106 g/km. The difference between the manual and automatic gearbox is barely noticeable and remains more or less identical.
This petrol engine is made of aluminium, so its weight is only 78 kg, and it has been engineered to run quietly and efficiently. Furthermore, a design has been adopted that allows the sump and the cylinder head to have their own cooling systems, which improves their operation and their behaviour on the road.
The DCC adaptive system will be fitted to engines with a minimum output of 150 CV and will allow the dampers to work better and deliver maximum performance in different conditions. The interior will also receive adjustments, and the infotainment system will be updated as standard on the Active trim and optional on the rest. With these changes, the Skoda Octavia will enter 2017 with real force.
