Škoda Rapid and Spaceback: the renewal of two very spacious compacts

The Czech brand has redesigned the Škoda Rapid and the Spaceback, two models that in size sit between the Fabia and Octavia ranges. These compacts have received new lighting systems, greater safety and a WLAN access point that allows their passengers to connect to the internet. The new Škoda Rapid and Spaceback will also feature a new 1.0 TSI three-cylinder engine. Their official presentation will take place at the Geneva International Motor Show (7-9 March 2017).
The visual improvement of these two models is particularly noticeable at the front. The fog lights have been modified, as have the bi-xenon main headlights and the LED daytime running lights. The new Rapid and Spaceback incorporate a new intelligent lighting system that measures light conditions in real time, adapting the intensity of the headlights when necessary.

The Škoda Rapid and the Škoda Spaceback belong to the compact car segment but stand out for their generous interior space. The Rapid measures 4.48 metres long, 1.71 metres wide and 1.46 metres high. The Spaceback, for its part, offers a length of 4.30 metres, a width of 1.71 metres and a height of 1.46 metres. Both models offer seating for up to five passengers.
The rear legroom is 972 mm, while the legroom is greater than that of rivals such as the Dacia Sandero. The 550-litre boot capacity of the Rapid (Škoda Spaceback: 415 litres) is also a benchmark in the segment.

The new compacts now offer a new 1.0 TSI three-cylinder engine. This powertrain, which stands out for its agility and efficiency, is available in two power levels: 95 and 110 CV. The new engine weighs 10 kg less than the 1.2-litre unit used in previous versions.
The Rapid and the Spaceback feature a new WLAN access point that gives their passengers the option of being always connected. In addition, the new ŠKODA Connect services have been incorporated, including Online infotainment and Care Connect services.
