The Czech brand has reason to celebrate. So far this year, Škoda has sold 178,901 units, which represents 25% more than in the same quarter of 2009. But these figures are particularly striking for last month, since the 72,900 cars marketed worldwide in March represent the largest monthly volume in the brand’s entire history.

Much of this success is owed to the Chinese market, which increasingly demands its products. This is shown by the 42,707 units sold in that Asian country during the first three months of 2010, representing an increase of 122% compared with the same period last year.

Deliveries in Western and Central Europe also rose by the same proportion, a 13% increase. Although the country with the best results was Germany, the largest sales growth came in Great Britain, with a 72% rise compared with the first quarter of 2009. Behind the British is Spain, with another significant increase of 71%, helped by the launches of the Superb Combi and the Yeti.

Among the remaining models, the undisputed leader is still the Octavia, with 77,192 units sold. The model that saw the greatest rise in commercial success is the Superb, whose 20,514 units sold represent 112% more than in 2009. The compact Fabia, although the second most popular with 52,700 units, suffered a slight drop of 3% in this first quarter of 2010. Finally, of the previous generation of the Octavia with the “Tour” badge, 8,414 units were sold, and of the Roomster, 7,886.
