Skoda wants to use the boot of cars as a parcel delivery point
The innovation department of Skoda proposes a new model for courier and parcel delivery in cars from the Czech brand
Skoda wants to make life easier for its customers or, at least, to facilitate the receipt of online purchases made by owners or users of its cars.
From Skoda Auto DigiLab, a simple, innovative and practical formula is proposed: using the car as a point for delivering and collecting a parcel handled by a courier company.
Indeed, the solution proposed by Skoda, in collaboration with its partners Alza.cz and Rohlik.cz to implement a pilot project, would allow couriers to leave the parcel in the boot of the Skoda. In this way, its user or owner could collect it once they went to use the car.
Tell the courier where your Skoda is
Thanks to the vehicle’s GPS location, the delivery staff would locate the car and proceed to deposit the parcel inside.
Naturally, the security of the vehicle would take priority over opening it, with the security of the goods taken for granted. The tailgate or boot door of the Skoda would be opened remotely via an application for phones or smart devices that would be available only to courier agents.
The courier in charge of the delivery would have a unique code to open the boot and place the parcel inside the vehicle. In addition, the opening time would be limited and always managed by the owner of the vehicle.
Once the parcel is deposited, the courier would close the boot and lock it using the mobile phone application. The entire process would be communicated to the owner or user of the Skoda in real time.
Cars expand their usefulness thanks to ingenuity and technology
In this way, Skoda is committed to offering an additional service with the purchase or use of one of its cars. This possibility would increase the level of user satisfaction in their relationship with the Czech manufacturer, with the company from which they purchased the product, and also with the company that made the delivery to the car, thus expanding the usefulness of the automobile beyond the transport of goods or people.
