Smart confirms the arrival of the Forfour Electric Drive

Only a few weeks ago the new generations of the Smart family were presented, made up of the Fortwo and the Forfour.
Today we learn that the larger one, the Forfour, will get a fully electric version that is already under development.
With this new version, the Smart range keeps growing, following the confirmation that the convertible version of the Fortwo will also arrive in the coming months. The Forfour will wear the colours of the Electric Drive family, joining the electric version of the previous-generation Fortwo, which is still in production today.
The Forfour Electric Drive will arrive no earlier than 2016, which gives the brand almost two years to complete the development of the model. We do not yet have any technical data, but we can draw on the figures of the Fortwo Electric Drive, which uses an electric motor of 55 kWh powered by a set of lithium-ion batteries of 17.6 kWh.

The performance of the current Fortwo is rated at an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 125 km/h. The Forfour will probably improve on these figures thanks to a technology that will by then be more developed.
As for the prices, we have no reference either, although it is possible that we will be talking about a rate of around 25,000 euros.
It is clear that this type of vehicle is going to see a big boost in the coming years, something already anticipated by the current sales of models such as the Volkswagen e-up! or the Renault ZOE, which are already starting to appear on the roads.
