The official presentation of the new generation of smart models is getting closer. Their debut is scheduled for October at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. However, the successive leaks of information about their technical specifications and the impressions of those who have been able to drive them will already leave little room to surprise the public.

In an attempt to maintain anticipation, smart has posted a teaser video on its YouTube channel explaining how its DNA has evolved and how it has influenced the design of the new fortwo and forfour. While it is true that both will share 70% of their components with the new Renault Twingo, the German brand wants to point out that its products will retain a distinct identity.

The video focuses on the main design changes of the vehicle, such as the elimination of the front and rear overhangs, the addition of a second volume, the new expression the front end will convey, the characteristic hexagons that will carry over from the earlier prototypes to the street versions, and the greater width that will help improve driving stability.

Inside, the video highlights the oval shapes of the dashboard and centre console, as well as the aforementioned hexagons, which will apparently be used in the cabin decoration. At the end of the video, two fairly simple drawings are shown that reveal the lines of the final design of both the fortwo and the forfour.

The similarities with the Twingo are more than evident and, in general, one can see that the removal of the overhangs, the more prominent nose and the extension of the Tridion safety cell towards the rear make these models look more like a proper car without needing to increase their length (only their width will grow, from the current 1.56 m to 1.66 m in the new generation).
