If in recent months you have seen more and more news on television and the Internet about the Somali pirates ravaging the coasts of Africa, the car industry is now no exception to the rule, since the latest “raid” carried out by the pirates involves a cargo ship carrying 2,400 cars from Hyundai and Kia, the two largest Korean brands.

The cargo ship, launched as “Asian Glory“, was on its way to Saudi Arabia after departing from South Korea, carrying 2,405 cars. Although not all of them are from the Korean brands mentioned above, as there are roughly 15 of them that are Mercedes-Benz.

Unfortunately, not only were the cars hijacked, but 25 crew members also fell into the hands of the pirates. As for the fate of the cars, neither Hyundai nor Kia seem too concerned, since the cars were already paid for and insured. Responsibility now appears to fall on the vehicle distributor, tasked with transporting them to their points of sale, a company called Eukor Car Carriers Inc.
