Spotted: the Saab 9-3X with practically no camouflage

Ahead of its supposed presentation in Geneva next month, the off-road version of the 9-3 estate is already nearly ready to hit the road. Photographers from Motor Authority caught this unit testing in winter conditions, which had practically no camouflage, revealing all the details of this version.

The 9-3X will stand out for its raised suspension, its cladding and protective underbody panels, and the roof rack. It is logical that it will feature Saab’s all-wheel drive Haldex XWD system. As for the engines, we will have to wait for an official announcement, but it will probably use the same ones as the standard 9-3, except for the 2.8 V6 turbocharged engine from the Turbo X.

Its most direct rivals will be the Audi Allroad (especially the upcoming Allroad based on the A4) or the Volvo XC70, among others. It will launch later this year and will share the spotlight with the new generation of the 9-5.
