Spy photos of the Rolls-Royce Ghost long wheelbase

A Rolls-Royce is a car designed to be driven by a chauffeur, while you travel in comfort in the rear seats. It is there that this manufacturer focuses all its efforts on achieving the most comfortable cabin possible.

However, some people may consider the space available in the compact saloon Ghost (it measures 5.40 metres long) insufficient. This is something Rolls-Royce cannot allow and, as the photographs show, the extended wheelbase version of the Ghost is at a very advanced stage of development. It is due to reach the market in mid-2011.

The images show an increase in the wheelbase, which is evident from the elongated rear doors. It is believed that the legroom for rear occupants will be increased by around 15 centimetres.

The mechanical package will remain unchanged, namely a 6.6-litre V12 engine producing 571 CV, coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The engine is positioned longitudinally and drives the rear wheels.

On the other hand, Rolls-Royce also has in mind producing a coupé and convertible version of the Ghost in two years’ time, although according to the latest information its development is not assured. The idea is to show the prototypes to a series of select customers and, depending on their response, take the decision. Another possible version in the waiting line is the hybrid with petrol and electric motors.
