SSC builds the last Aero

Shelby Super Cars has begun building the final version of the Ultimate Aero, unveiled a few months ago under the name XT, at its Washington plant. The XT was said to be built in only five units, as the final chapter of this supercar that once held the world record for top speed.

In a brief press release, Jerold Shelby announces that the unknown customer who will take home the last Ultimate Aero “eagerly awaits” the building of his car, while Shelby Super Cars already looks to the future, to the Tuatara, the next beast that SSC will begin producing next year.

A 7-liter V8 with 1,300 horsepower powers the Aero XT, accelerating to 100 km/h in just over 2.5 seconds. If you keep accelerating beyond that, the XT will reach 320 km/h in just over 15 seconds and, after a bit more time, its top speed of 440 km/h.

With figures like these, and with some mechanical elements borrowed from the Tuatara, the final Aero will be the most powerful of them all. It is up to the new owner of this gem whether he is willing to risk the investment, of more than one million dollars, and try to beat the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which currently holds the speed record at 439 km/h.
