Subaru BRZ turbo: reportedly coming in 2014

Subaru is reportedly preparing a turbo version of its BRZ, with the possibility of reaching 300 horsepower from its 2-litre Boxer engine.

The turbo couldn’t remain on the sidelines for much longer as far as the Subaru BRZ is concerned, given the acceptance the Japanese sports car has enjoyed since going on sale. That’s why Subaru has started working on a new turbo specially adapted to the BRZ and its 2-litre Boxer.

The figures the turbocharged BRZ could achieve are still subject to confirmation from the brand, and there is not the slightest hint about the turbo so far (none at all). The Boxer is thought to be capable of reaching 300 horsepower and a top speed of around 250 km/h.

The turbo version will obviously be quite different from the naturally aspirated one. Speculating a little, we could start with a body kit specially created for this turbo version, which could receive adjustments to the suspension or brakes. Subaru would thus take an important step towards making these coupés fashionable again, as they are not only small but also tough.

Now, with the SEMA Show so close, Subaru could well take a trip to Las Vegas and show us something of what it has in the works with this Subaru turbo. Don’t you think?
