Subaru presents the new 2009 Impreza WRX and GT

Some car manufacturers are not treating their customers too kindly when they present upgraded versions of the same models they had previously sold. BMW started with a sudden redesign of the 4-door M3, and now Subaru announces a significant update to its WRX version of the Impreza, with several details and high-resolution photos.
It consists of the old WRX with the 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer engine producing 224 horsepower and a 4-speed automatic gearbox becoming a lower trim level in the range called GT. The new one raises output to 265 horsepower, together with a 5-speed manual transmission, a new suspension setup, and certain tweaks bearing the always welcome signature of STI.
The 2009 WRX also receives wider 225/45R17 summer tyres and 17-inch alloy wheels, and because of its new characteristics, Subaru has improved the car’s steering so it does not lose its high-quality handling.

Externally, this version comes as standard with the STI grille and an aerodynamic kit. On the saloon version (only available in North America) this means a small spoiler over the boot, while the 5-door gets the same STI wing plus a diffuser in the rear bumper. Inside, the new WRX adds carbon black upholstery and, in the Premium trim, a sunroof.
Unfortunately, there are people for whom these updates are not enough, and who still don’t see the appeal of the new generation Impreza.
