Suzuka Vitara: the SUV with the lowest consumption among the best-sellers

The Suzuki Vitara 1.6 DDis is the SUV with the lowest real-world fuel consumption and ranks among Spain’s 60 best-selling cars. Without a doubt, these are figures the Japanese manufacturer can be proud of.

The Suzuki Vitara can boast of being the SUV with the lowest real-world fuel consumption in its category. It is no coincidence, therefore, that it is one of the 60 best-selling vehicles in our country.

Its official consumption claims a total usage of 5.2 litres per 100 kilometres, and this figure, in fact, is the one closest to the official one, at a total of 5.3 litres per 100 kilometres. These numbers demonstrate the transparency of Suzuki and its commitment to the environment.

Through several tests carried out by Autobild on the 60 best-selling cars in Spain, this incredible transparency and efficiency of the Japanese model has been demonstrated.

The Vitara 1.6 DDiS achieved three sensational results in this test. It is the SUV that obtained the best real-world consumption figures compared to the rest of the vehicles in the test. In the overall vehicle ranking it places 7th for consumption, surpassing even compact city cars and saloons.

Sales success across its 4 generations

In 2017, the Suzuki Vitara surpassed 3 million units sold worldwide. It is a car that has been marketed across 190 countries and five continents. It is manufactured on 3 of them.

The first generation of the Vitara ran from 1988 to 1998, which demonstrates its success and effectiveness. It was present on 4 of the 5 continents.

The second generation, named Suzuki Grand Vitara, reached the market in 1998 and ran until 2005. Its XL-7 version was a great success in the USA, where for many years it was the most affordable seven-seat SUV on the market. It achieved major success, winning the “Best Buy” award from Consumers Digest from 2003 to 2004.

With the third generation (2005-2014), the Vitara continued to win over the public and demonstrate the longevity of its generations. With sales of 176,000 units in its first year of life (more than half of them in Europe), by 2008 2.4 million Vitaras sold worldwide had been reached. By the end of this generation, the figure had risen to 2.89 million units.

The current generation of the Vitara, launched in 2015, has had the honour of reaching the round figure of three million units produced, 250,000 of them sold in Europe. Building on this base comes this update, which will continue to boost the spectacular numbers of this iconic car.
