The new BMW Series 3 completes its final tuning at the Nürburgring circuit

The new BMW Series 3 is in its final stage of development. In fact, the new generation of the German saloon has just completed a crucial stage before series production: tuning at the Nürburgring circuit. When it comes to setting up a vehicle’s driving dynamics, the legendary Nordschleife track is the perfect proving ground. On the “Green Hell,” BMW fine-tunes the propulsion and suspension technology of its new models, and the upcoming BMW Series 3 is no exception.
Improved chassis: upgrades to suspension, steering and brakes

The new BMW Series 3 is geared towards greater dynamism. Its centre of gravity is 10 millimetres lower than its predecessor’s, weight distribution has been balanced to 50:50, and weight has been reduced by 55 kg.
The levels of structural rigidity and suspension, so crucial to steering setup and ride acoustics, have been significantly improved. The car’s agility and steering precision benefit from much wider track widths, while the increased wheel camber angles offer additional potential for maximum lateral dynamics.

Revised four-cylinder engine: more powerful than ever
In terms of mechanicals, the BMW Series 3 debuts a completely revised 4-cylinder petrol engine. It is the most powerful 4-cylinder engine ever fitted to a production BMW. Nevertheless, its fuel consumption figures remain 5% lower than its predecessor’s. This engine is paired with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. In addition, a particulate filter optimises the emissions of the new powerplant, allowing it to meet the Euro 6d-TEMP standard.

M Sport differential: more traction through tight corners
The new BMW saloon features an M Sport differential on the rear axle, whose electronically controlled locking function is linked to Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), ensuring that the rear wheels’ rotational speed is correct at all times. This translates into more efficient traction through corners, with no loss of power to the inside wheel.
