The 5 plug-in hybrid SUVs with the best electric range-to-price ratio on the Spanish market

We analyse the five plug-in hybrid SUVs with the best balance between WLTP electric range and starting price in Spain in 2026. Technical ranking, comparison table and objective score for each model.

The plug-in hybrid SUV is reaching its greatest technical maturity in 2026. Denser batteries, DC fast-charging systems and WLTP electric ranges that already comfortably exceed 100 kilometres have turned the segment into the most rational alternative for those not yet ready to make the leap to full electric. At Highmotor we have filtered the models sold in Spain and selected the five that offer the best balance between real electric kilometres and starting price.

Why is the electric range-to-price ratio the key metric in 2026?

The price of a PHEV is justified—or not—by the kilometres it can cover without burning a drop of petrol. An SUV offering 80 km WLTP for €45,000 delivers worse value per electric kilometre than one providing 130 km for €55,000. On top of this come the DGT CERO label tax treatment, exclusive to PHEVs with a homologated electric range above 40 km, and regional incentives that continue to reward plug-ins with generous batteries.

Ranking methodology: what we measured

We weighted WLTP electric range, starting price in Spain, combined power, DC charging capacity where available, homologated consumption and standard equipment. The final score (1 to 10) reflects overall balance, not a single parameter.

1. BMW X1 xDrive30e — from €52,900

The BMW X1 xDrive30e is the benchmark in the premium compact plug-in SUV segment. Its 14.2 kWh usable battery is homologated for around 100 km of electric WLTP range, an outstanding figure for a compact under 4.5 metres. The combination of a three-cylinder 1.5 petrol engine and an integrated electric motor linked to a seven-speed Steptronic gearbox delivers 326 CV combined and 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. It also accepts three-phase charging at 7.4 kW, rare among compact PHEVs.

240 kW 326 CV 210 km/h 100 km 0.8 l/100 km CERO PHEV

2. Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 e — from €68,500

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 e plays in a different league in terms of size and price, but is unbeatable on electric range: 130 km WLTP homologated thanks to its 24.8 kWh gross battery. It is also the only model in this ranking with DC fast charging at 60 kW, capable of refilling the battery in under 30 minutes. The 313 CV combined powertrain and 4MATIC all-wheel drive make it a long-distance electric family GT in real terms.

Ford Kuga

3. Ford Kuga PHEV — from €39,900

The Ford Kuga PHEV remains the king of pure value. With 69 km electric WLTP, 243 CV combined and a starting price below €40,000, no rival offers more silent kilometres per euro invested. The ST-Line X version adds generous equipment without inflating the label cost.

CUPRA Formentor

4. Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid — from €44,200

The Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid introduced in 2024 a new 19.7 kWh usable battery that pushes its electric range up to 122 km WLTP, a record figure among mainstream PHEVs in Spain. With 272 CV in the VZ version and DC charging at 50 kW, it is the most sporty proposal in the ranking and the one that best balances price, electric kilometres and performance.

Kia Sorento 12

5. Kia Sorento PHEV — from €55,800

The Kia Sorento PHEV is the option for those who need seven genuine seats without giving up the CERO label. It offers 265 CV combined, all-wheel drive and 57 km electric WLTP. Its strength is the size-to-price ratio: few three-row SUVs homologate the CERO label for less than €56,000.

Highmotor verdict

The Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid tops the ranking by offering 122 km of electric WLTP range for less than €45,000, a ratio that in 2026 only the Mercedes GLC 300 e surpasses in absolute kilometres—at a far higher price. The Ford Kuga PHEV remains the most rational entry point to the segment, while the BMW X1 xDrive30e dominates the premium compact niche and the Kia Sorento PHEV holds the seven-seat niche with the CERO label.

Frequently asked questions

Which plug-in hybrid SUV has the most electric range in Spain in 2026?
