Apple is moving ahead with the design of its first car, which could arrive in 2024 backed by revolutionary technology.

For a long time, rumours have circulated about a supposed Apple vehicle, a car set to change everything and revolutionise the sector. However, these rumours faded somewhat at the same time as the people in Cupertino were apparently focusing their efforts on mobile technology and computers. But nothing could be further from the truth, since the leak of Apple’s roadmap indicates that the Apple Car -as it has been called to date- would arrive in 2024.

For the moment, the telephony and computing giant has made no statement on the matter, but the leaks point to a series of very interesting innovations. The electric mobility that the Apple car will rely on is, so to speak, only taking its first steps, so having a four-year development window could translate into cutting-edge technology ready to solve the problems that electric cars bring with them.

And, without a doubt, one of the points that promises to change the Apple Car is the battery. Rumours suggest that the people in Cupertino could be working on a new lithium iron phosphate battery, which involves a lower energy density but keeps the battery from overheating as much. In other words, lower energy consumption and lower production costs, which could make electric vehicles cheaper.

To this we should also add the use of monocell technology in the development of the battery itself. Thanks to this, space is freed up to store more energy in the same volume, meaning we would be talking about a range considerably greater than that offered by today’s electric car, another area where this type of mobility generally falls short.

Another point to bear in mind is the level of autonomous driving that Apple’s first four-wheeled offspring will offer. Indeed, the company is not considering driver intervention, so within four years it is quite feasible that the Apple Car will offer a considerably high level that allows all kinds of journeys without the need to touch the steering wheel.

The design will also be handled by the people in Cupertino, who promise to deliver a car immersed in their philosophy and language, that is, minimalism everywhere. If everything goes according to plan, in four years’ time we will meet the long-awaited car from Apple, which will pave the way for a new competitor in the automotive sector.
