The Audi Q4 e-tron prototype previews a new SUV for the family

The new Audi Q4 e-tron will be the next member of the Audi SUV family. A model we will see previewed as a prototype in March.

The Audi SUV family keeps growing at an unstoppable pace, and the new Audi Q4 e-tron is set to become a new representative of the German manufacturer’s offensive. While we knew that at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show we would see a compact electric Audi SUV, the presence of the Audi Q4 e-tron prototype means putting a name, a face and an image to the next SUV from the four-ring brand.

From March 5 to 17, under the spotlights that illuminate Audi’s proposals, the Audi Q4 e-tron concept car will make its appearance.

Judging by the preview images we show in this article, the prototype of the new Audi Q4 e-tron has dimensions that could rival those of the new BMW X4. In fact, with its muscular body lines, large wheel arches, a raised front end and a sloping roofline similar to what coupés have traditionally offered, it is clear that this car is born as a rival to its compatriots’ renewed SUV.

As for the cabin design, although it corresponds to a drawing, it shows a high degree of elegance thanks to the use of elements reminiscent of glass or, at least, polished surfaces. The air vents, the central console, the frame of the central bridge, the lower spoke of the steering wheel, the door trims… Minimalist yet evocative.

New Audi Q4 e-tron, diesel, petrol and hybrid and plug-in

Regarding the mechanical configuration of the Audi Q4 e-tron, we expect the production model to offer both diesel and petrol engine blocks and, in addition, hybrid and plug-in technology.

Audi announces that this new Audi Q4 e-tron takes the next step toward the manufacturer’s full immersion in electric and plug-in hybridisation. We would therefore be looking at a preview of an Audi Q4 plug-in hybrid.

Production of the Audi Q4 e-tron

Without any further information beyond the invitation to the Genoa event, Audi announces that production of the definitive model of the new Audi Q4 is set to begin from the end of next year or the start of 2021.

This means that, by that same 2021, Audi’s SUV range will have a new member in dealerships. One more option among the crossovers, filling the empty niche between the current Q3 and Q and the Audi Q5.
