The Bentley Bentayga has dominated Pikes Peak with its new record and celebrates it with a special edition

Bentley wanted to take part in the iconic race, Pikes Peak, with the Bentayga. The English SUV managed to set a new record, stopping the clock at 10:49.9

SUVs are making a bigger impact on the various segments that already exist, since their versatility makes them unique and extraordinary vehicles. Over time, several manufacturers working with SUVs decided to give them a much more sporty and exclusive character, as has happened with the Lamborghini Urus and the Bentley Bentayga, the main subject of this article. Its powerful engine and luxurious, exclusive finishes make it one of the SUVs of the moment but, at the same time, the English firm wanted to highlight the Bentayga’s capabilities by breaking a record at Pikes Peak.

Bentley took advantage of the iconic competition to once again show the world what the Bentayga is made of and, at the same time, that sportiness and comfort can go hand in hand. With this in mind, without hesitation, the English SUV tackled Pikes Peak to demonstrate its abilities on the asphalt and its resilience against the adversities that the American race can offer. Thanks to its determination and dominance, Bentley managed to deal a hard blow to the competition and set a new record.

Let’s recall that the British firm first entered the world of SUVs with the Bentayga, but this has only shown us the wide dominance that Bentley has in every segment. The Bentayga was presented as a luxury vehicle where comfort, exclusivity and performance come together to offer its customers a space in which to enjoy travelling in comfort. However, Bentley has also shown us what it is capable of on the track by competing at Pikes Peak.

The power of Bentley at Pikes Peak

At the wheel of the English SUV was the two-time champion Rhys Millen, who managed to get the most out of the Bentley Bentayga. In this way, the New Zealand driver covered the 19.99 kilometres and 156 corners that make up the Pikes Peak circuit in just 10:49.9 minutes, a time that crowns the Bentley Bentayga as the fastest production SUV in the American competition.

This achievement would not have been possible without Millen’s experienced hands and without the excellent set-up of the Bentayga. Let’s remember that the British SUV hides under its bonnet, in its most powerful version, a powerful twin-turbocharged W12 engine capable of delivering 600 CV of power and 900 Nm of torque. Customers can also opt for a more “modest” variant with a V8 engine, but the most radical Bentayga was the ideal candidate to tear up the asphalt of Pikes Peak.

A limited edition to celebrate the title

An event of this calibre does not happen every day, and that is why Bentley decided to celebrate it in style with a special edition of the Bentayga. It will feature some unique traits that directly reference the new record the brand has just achieved and, at the same time, only ten units will be built. The mechanics will remain intact, but we can see a series of modifications both in terms of exterior styling and interior.

The lucky ten customers who have the privilege of acquiring this special edition will be able to choose between two colours: Beluga Black or Striking Radium, the same shade of green worn by the car used at Pikes Peak. At the same time, huge 22-inch two-tone wheels are in charge of further accentuating the British SUV’s exterior look. All the changes compared with a standard Bentayga have been carried out by Mulliner, the department responsible for bringing to life the most special Bentley.

The exterior continues to be dressed in top-quality materials such as carbon fibre, which is applied to the splitter, diffuser and rear spoiler. On the other hand, Bentley has also decided to add some decorative elements to remind its owners of the record it achieved at Pikes Peak, a title that has allowed it to make history once again.

If we open the door of this very special Bentley Bentayga, we will notice that Mulliner has also been busy. On one hand, we find carbon fibre, Alcantara and leather shining in all their splendour, something further emphasised by some lime-coloured details. Last but not least, we find a commemorative plaque showing the course of Pikes Peak, which aims to mark not only the success of the English SUV but of the entire brand.
