The best car video games to get through lockdown
Today we bring you some of the car video games that are ideal for getting through the lockdown period.
We are possibly living through one of the toughest moments of the 21st century. Never before has a state of alarm been declared that forced us to stay at home without being able to go out except on very specific occasions. During this lockdown period, companies have halted production, our cars don’t move, fines for disobeying the rules are piling up, and the house is driving us mad.
We have always appreciated being at home, sitting down and doing what we enjoy most. But when day after day you can do nothing but sit there, the four walls of the room start closing in on you.
That’s why we have chosen several car video games to keep us entertained during this quarantine period. We haven’t filtered by platform, year or style. Anything goes. This is not a ranking but a list, so the order is irrelevant.
Gran Turismo
The Gran Turismo series is without doubt one of the most legendary and iconic in the history of car video games. The latest instalment, Gran Turismo Sport from 2017, has kept the gameplay that has always characterised the series, but it focused mainly on online competition. Very typical of modern video games.

But unlike other games in this article, Gran Turismo boasts of being one of the best-selling video games on the PS4 in its category. It has sold over 10 million units. Both the arcade and simulation modes have been the two keys that turned this video game into an icon of motoring entertainment. Although we don’t like getting into debates, the Gran Turismo 2 and 4 are possibly considered the best editions to date.
Formula 1
The Formula 1 video game series is undoubtedly one of the most consistent over time. Year after year they continue to delight us with a new game and endless novelties. Since its launch in 1983 it has been one of the biggest sales successes among fans of this sport. Piloting a Formula 1 car as Fernando Alonso is not something you can do every day.

It is difficult to judge which edition of this series is the best in its history. It is clear that the newer PlayStation 4 games have a clear advantage in graphics and online competitiveness… But the classic fans enjoyed a lot the early-2000s editions, with the “prime” version featuring Michael Schumacher and the Fernando Alonso titles. Even so, with today’s simulators and the gameplay offered by the latest 2019 instalment, perhaps this is the best edition to date in terms of demand, strategy, graphics and fun.
Mario Kart
Although some might have thought we were only focusing on the PlayStation, we had to save a spot for Nintendo and one of the best creations in its history. Mario Bros is probably the most famous plumber and carpenter in the world. Nintendo has spent decades evolving the adventures of its moustachioed hero.

And Mario Kart is one of the best car games in history for what it proposed. A video game available for the DS, the Wii and the Switch that has captivated audiences of all kinds. Age doesn’t matter, this game is always loved. Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and company offer hours of entertainment. We choose a character, a kart and launch weapons against the rest of the rivals. The most famous banana peels in the world were created by Mario Kart. Its latest release for the Switch is considered one of the best products to date.
Need For Speed
Calm down. Of course the most iconic tuning series in video game history could not be left out. This series is one of the most played in the whole of history. Partly for that touch of illegality in all its editions, but above all for its very complete gameplay, difficulty and tuning format.
There have been dozens of editions of this classic series. Video games full of police chases, tracks with obstacles and opponents to defeat. And among all its releases there is no argument here. There is no debate. There is one above the rest. A car that reinvented itself. The original 2005 edition, Need For Speed Most Wanted.
