The Chevy Volt will have dedicated apps for BlackBerry and iPhone

While the Chevy Volt’s launch date is still some way off, some people are already a bit worried about the aftermarket accessories the Volt could get to make it more appealing to the public.
These tools, developed to be used on BlackBerry and iPhone devices, let you communicate with the onboard computer and keep track of certain vehicle data remotely, such as the battery charge level or starting the charging process remotely, for example. Although nothing more has been disclosed about what these apps may be able to do, they would be a perfect complement to the Volt.
In the case of the iPod, there is talk of being able to remotely control the battery charging, just like with the BlackBerry. But the car would also be sending text messages to the iPod itself. The messaging system would be used by the car to report technical or safety emergencies (an attempted theft, for example) while its owner is away from the vehicle.
I imagine that in the future there will be a huge number of these apps for the increasingly popular portable devices. As always, some will be useless, but others would be essential.
