The Dagger GT gets an update to... 3,000 horsepower for the GT-D

Last year we wrote about one of those entries that are hard to swallow even for the person writing them. The Dagger GT was an almost fantasy supercar that set out to show that, starting from a twin-turbo 427 big block, it could deliver 2,000 horsepower in cold, hard numbers.

But hold on, because the best is yet to come. The Dagger GT is announced with changes for its 2012 model and will now be called Dagger GT-D. The last letter gives us a clue to what we’re about to see, because the D stands for Dragster.

The Dagger GT-D now raises the stakes and reaches 3,000 HP of peak power. The acceleration figures defy every law of human physics, yet Trans Star Racing claims it takes less than one second to reach 100 km/h. It’s practically a dragster with convertible bodywork.

But is all this real, or just wishful thinking? For a company just getting started, Trans Star Racing claims to have five variants of the Dagger GT on sale: the Dagger GT-S Sport, Dagger GT-X Luxury, Dagger GT-R Road Race, Dagger GT-D Drag Race and Dagger GT LS Landspeed. According to the company, the last three models are for competition only, but they can be adapted for street use if more special accessories are bought, which pushes the price to more than one million dollars in the USA.

Some curious details: you can have whatever engine you want fitted, as long as it fits inside the engine bay; these cars sidestep CAFE regulations, but for every car sold Trans Star Racing will pay the corresponding fine; the acceleration figures are backed up by the use of special traction components and chassis reinforcements borrowed from drag racing; with the right preparation, the top speed of one of these beasts is said to be around 500 km/h.
