The DGT publishes the results of the special motorcycle monitoring campaign

A total of 1,267 motorcyclists have been fined for traffic offences during the seven days the special campaign lasted, which aimed to raise awareness among motorcyclists and put an end to the significant increase in fatalities during the first months of the year. Over that week 47,936 motorcycles were checked by the Guardia Civil on Spanish roads.
Among the most frequent offences, overtaking in breach of the rules, speeding and not wearing a helmet stand out. Around 116 motorcyclists were caught making illegal overtaking manoeuvres, while 199 were riding above the speed limit permitted on the road.
As for motorcyclists not wearing helmets, 105 riders were penalised for this offence. The study also found that 21 vehicles had number plates with some kind of modification that made them invisible or illegible to traffic radars. Regarding breathalyser checks, 38 people tested positive.
On the other hand, 225 motorcycles had not passed the Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV) and 125 were penalised for not having a vehicle document in order. In total, the DGT has processed 1,307 reports, and since the start of the year until early July, 116 motorcyclists have lost their lives on Spanish roads.
