The electric solar-charged model from Aptera is unveiled ahead of its launch

About a year ago we were talking about Aptera’s electric three-wheeler. A small, affordable vehicle with three wheels to move around the city with freedom. Now we know a bit more about it, which will also increase its range thanks to solar panels mounted on its bodywork. Apparently, everything points to production of this model starting at the end of 2023.

This electric three-wheeler with solar panels will be manufactured in a single version, the launch version. Although we don’t know whether more variants will follow in the near future, interested buyers will only be able to access this one. And it’s not to be underestimated. It is an electric vehicle designed for the city, with good range, excellent manoeuvrability and a top speed that allows it to travel on interurban roads.

In this first configuration, the Aptera will feature a battery pack offering a range of around 643 kilometres. It can also be charged from any 240-volt power outlet. With this charging system, the vehicle can recover up to 90 kilometres with each hour of charging.

In addition, the solar panel system can recover up to 65 kilometres each day, provided there is enough solar radiation to charge. As for consumption, this model is rated at 75% less than any other electric city vehicle. In terms of acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h, it takes a little over four seconds, and the top speed is 162.5 km/h.

As for space, the cabin is said to have room for two people. The boot, according to the company, offers good capacity, of 920 litres, which makes it a very practical city vehicle.

Aptera production

We have already mentioned that the company’s plans are for the Aptera to be ready to enter production at the end of 2023. However, for this to happen, Aptera must raise 50 million euros. This is the figure needed to begin manufacturing the model. It has not been announced how they expect to raise this money, whether from external sources or from pre-orders of the model.
