The English spider-like robot that will go to the Moon in 2021

The United Kingdom is preparing the first Rover robot in its history. It has the shape of a spider and its technology is very sophisticated. It will land on the Moon in 2021…

The United States and Russia were the first to make giant strides in space exploration. It is already 50 years since the US put the first man on the Moon.

The United Kingdom also seems to want to embark on this adventure, and to prove it they present their first rover robot. Created by the UK-based private company Spacebit, the small rover will reach the Moon accompanied by a Vulcan rocket, also built by the same private company.

Its landing will take place at Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA. The curious robot will make a stop inside the landing module Peregrine, built by the American company Astrobotic. It is this landing module that will be responsible for carrying the rover into lunar orbit.

This robotic spider is called Spacebit, although given the times we live in, we would not be surprised to see it renamed something like Spiderman, or perhaps Spiderobot?.

This robot has the peculiarity of being able to jump, and besides, it weighs just a little over a kilo, which is remarkable compared with other, less advanced robots from barely a decade ago.

During its stay on the Moon, the rover will separate about 10 metres from the landing module, from where it will begin sending all kinds of high-definition videos to Earth.

One of the goals of this mission is to test the feasibility of sending in the future small satellite vehicles to, among other things, explore lava tubes, since in the opinion of scientists these could offer a suitable environment for the life of future astronauts.

If the spider robot’s mission proves successful, the United Kingdom will become the fourth country to land a rover on our satellite, behind only the most advanced powers in space exploration, namely the United States, Russia and China.

We still have a very long way to go to learn more about our own solar system, let alone the secrets that deep space holds, but as the old saying goes, Rome was not built in a day, and the house is built brick by brick, without haste but without pause…
