The Ford Crown Victoria, the last car sold with a cassette player

A few days ago I read the news that Lexus was discontinuing one of its models in the US, one that still offered the cassette player as part of its standard equipment. However, the Ford Crown Victoria will be the last bastion of the cassette, since it will continue to offer it as part of the equipment of the 2010 model.

Though not for much longer. Ford has decided that this will be the final production year of the Crown Victoria, which will only be sold for integration into company fleets.

I didn’t give up, and I did a little search for cars that were still being sold with a cassette player, but the results were not at all positive for the few cassette fans that still exist. Not even in Africa do Peugeot or Volkswagen sell any model with a radio-cassette.

The cassette is still going through the last months of its life as standard equipment in a car, which seems incredible because after many years of putting up with mangled tapes, I didn’t think any new car was still being sold with a tape deck. The only ones that will keep working will be those that use MP3 laptop adapters (I use one in my older car, with very good results).
