The future of Volvo will be based on four-cylinder engines

Anonymous sources indicate that the Swedish company will exclusively use four-cylinder engines, which will be as powerful as the older models with more cylinders.
According to analysts, this move makes sense because it will allow the company to adapt to the new EU regulations which by 2015 foresee an emissions level of 120 g/km, in addition to meeting the long-term target of 95 g/km by 2020.
Thanks to this early adaptation, the Swedish manufacturer will be able to save time and money, and even focus on other aspects of its future products. It also means that the engines will use a range of technologies to keep their size down while delivering high power.
The development of the next generation of four-cylinder engines began after Volvo received a loan of 600 million dollars from the European Investment Bank.
The first heart of the new programme is expected to be a 1.6L diesel unit that should appear in 2011.
