GMC has leaked the first image of the GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept pickup, just under a month before the Detroit show opens. And if there is one way to define this pickup, judging by the specifications that have emerged, it will be a true all-terrain tank, the kind that is so popular on the other side of the pond.

The new GMC’s aggressive look is the first thing that catches the eye. At the front underbody, a generous steel plate, a continuation of the grille, will provide the right protection for anyone who wants to tackle almost impossible angles during off-road excursions. For added protection, the underbody is covered by another layer of tough material against stones, impacts or obstacles that could damage the suspension components, brakes or fuel lines.

Vehicles of this type are prone to rollovers because of their high centre of gravity, a problem addressed by widening the bodywork further. Even with 20-inch wheels and 35-inch all-terrain tyres, it will be hard for this beast to face any compromising situation.

As for engines, the Sierra All Terrain will feature a 6.6-litre Duramax V8 diesel, paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox. With 400 CV, considerable torque and the benefits of diesel fuel (with an 11% improvement in fuel economy over previous versions), anyone who wants to reach the end of the world will surely manage it with ease.
