We have already seen two of the three versions we knew would arrive for the Hyundai Ioniq. After the hybrid variant comes the second version of the model, the one that uses only electricity as its energy source and means of propulsion. It is the brand’s first fully electric model and forms part of the Korean brand’s offensive to secure a place in the electrified car market it plans for the coming years.

The Hyundai Ioniq electric is a model with an interesting configuration for getting around using electricity as its fuel. It is equipped with a three-phase high-voltage motor that delivers 85 kW, equivalent to 120 CV, together with a maximum torque of 265 Nm, which can rise to 295 Nm when Sport mode is used.

The battery that stores the electrical energy powering the electric motor has a capacity of 28 kWh and can be charged in just four hours using a wall-box. If a DC high-voltage fast charging system is used, 80% charge can be reached in only 23 minutes, a fairly interesting option for simply topping up. In addition, regenerative braking can be used to store energy while braking.

The car’s top speed is limited to 165 km/h, reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in 9.9 seconds. Range is rated at 280 km on the homologation cycle and drops to around 200 km in real-world driving. The gearbox has only one gear, so simply pressing the accelerator pedal delivers the car’s full torque from the moment it moves off.

Aesthetically, it loses the front grille, replaced by a plastic panel, since without a combustion engine it does not need the traditional one. Moreover, the space available, more limited than in the hybrid models, means the multi-link rear suspension is replaced by a torsion beam axle. A small detail that does not interfere much with driving.

There are three trim levels, Klass, Tecno and Style, with different equipment. Prices are 34,600, 37,100 and 39,600 euros respectively. Buyers who finance the car through the manufacturer’s finance company will receive a 1,400 euro discount. The third variant of the model will arrive this summer and will be the plug-in hybrid, completing the Ioniq family.
