The incredible Guinness World Record for the BMW M5: drifting 378 km non-stop, refuelling on the move!
The previous record was held by the Toyota GT86, with a 144-kilometre drift.
The new BMW M5 offers, for the first time in its history, a four-wheel-drive system. The traditional rear-wheel drive of the BMW had been the hallmark of this sports saloon through its five previous generations (E28, E34, E39, E60, F10), but with this sixth one, BMW wants to convince us that all-wheel drive is the best option for the M5 to continue making history, and the truth is that the following video gives us reasons to believe it. The new BMW M5 has set a new Guinness World Record, and it did so by performing an 8-hour non-stop drift, covering 374 kilometres and refuelling up to five times on the move. Brutal!

The previous drifting record was held by the Toyota GT86 and stood at 144 kilometres, a mark set in 6 hours, so this is truly a spectacular leap. But the most striking part of this feat is the five refuelling stops on the move that the car had to carry out to drift for 8 hours straight.

Let’s recall that the new BMW M5 features an eight-cylinder engine producing 600 CV of power. It is worth noting that this car’s all-wheel-drive system offers a 100% rear-wheel-drive configuration, meaning the rear axle is the only one propelling the vehicle in this driving mode. We understand the Bavarian brand used this configuration to carry out this record.
