The Lexus SC 430 will be discontinued next month due to low sales

The only convertible sports coupé that Lexus has in its lineup (and one of the models the brand sells in Spain, by the way) is about to take the hard blow of discontinuation, as the brand has decided that now is the moment to stop offering the model for sale. The reason is the low sales share of the SC 430 in recent years.
Of course, this is not a decision taken lightly. According to Automobile, the Lexus SC 430 managed to sell only 1,000 units worldwide last year, 720 of them in the USA alone. Moreover, it was a move Lexus had already been planning for a couple of years, when it carried out a review of its entire range.
However, for those who like this version of the Lexus, or for those who had planned to swap their SC for a newer model, do not despair. You will have to wait a little, but the new generation of the SC is expected to be available in 2014, although probably not in the same way we know the SC 430 today. Based on the tentative name of the new generation, SC 600h, it would be very similar to the SC 430, with a 5-litre V8 engine, but would feature a hybrid system.
Meanwhile, in July the SC 430 will reach its end, with barely 300 units produced this year. It cannot be very pleasant to see the sales figures with so few units left in the factory pipeline, and even less to know how many SC 430s have been sold in Spain.
