While the PSA Group plans its low-cost model (or rather, models), Renault has not been resting on its laurels and wants to do the same: have a very low-cost model ready in two years’ time.

The car, of which a graphic representation is shown, will be developed in partnership with the Indian company Bajaj. For those of you still wondering where this Bajaj comes from, suffice it to say that it is India’s leading manufacturer of motorcycles and three-wheeled vehicles, as well as the world’s fourth-largest producer of such vehicles.

And indeed Bajaj would lead the design and production of the vehicle, which would be ready by 2012 for the Indian market, at a price of 2,500 dollars at current exchange rates. By 2013, the car is expected to reach Europe, by which time the Tata Nano Europa will also be on sale here.

Naturally, this car will try to be a rival to the European Nano, but I am not sure whether the final design will end up looking like the image, since there is not much that can be done with a projected price of 2,500 dollars. Along the same lines, European regulations demand better-equipped cars, which is why the European model is said to cost exactly double: 5,000 dollars.
