To buy a supercar like the McLaren 675LT, you need a bank account that is more than healthy. And for McLaren to paint it in the legendary Gulf Racing colours, besides being whimsical, you have to be a very special customer.

The McLaren 675LT MSO Gulf Racing is the latest from the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division, responsible for developing and building the special editions of the brand’s sports cars. This time, its new creation stems from a whim: that of a customer who ordered his McLaren 675LT decorated in the colours of the historic Gulf Racing team. A complete tribute to the McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail, which won its category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1977.

A customer’s whim has led McLaren to decorate a 675LT in the legendary Gulf Racing colours

Like the F1 GTR, the McLaren 675LT features sky blue and black colours, with the orange stripe running along the entire bodywork, a colour that is also used on the 20-inch wheels and in some decorative details inside, such as the ventilation outlets and the seat belts. It seems that paying homage to legendary liveries is becoming fashionable, as we already saw in the new Brabham BT62.

We don’t know how much the customer paid to McLaren for this “extra”, but according to McLaren, 1,000 hours of work were used, of which 800 hours were devoted to polishing and painting the bodywork, following a completely handcrafted process. And you can imagine that McLaren’s labour is not priced the same as the workshop where we take our cars for their service…

The work on this McLaren 675LT is completed by a series of special components from the MSO catalogue, such as the carbon fibre airbrake and the roof air intake. Inside, the Alcantara-upholstered bucket seats with contrasting blue and orange stitching include the owner’s initials.

Where there are no changes, and we don’t know whether this is because the person who ordered the car ran out of budget or because they were content with the standard specifications, is the mechanical side. With its twin-turbo V8 engine producing 675 CV and 700 Nm, the McLaren 675LT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 330 km/h.
