The McLaren P1 is revealed

McLaren has presented the first images of the P1, its new hyper sports car to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.

McLaren Automotive has released today three images of the new P1, the successor to one of the most admired supercars in history, the McLaren F1. And although it looks like we are facing yet another wave of technical novelties that will leave us open-mouthed, there isn’t much to it if we set aside the spectacular design that the Woking team has given the P1.

Design accounts for 50% of a car like this. Yes, the engine matters too, but it also matters that “the beast” makes an impression on the eyes. And the truth is that the P1 will leave no one indifferent when it is presented in the coming days at the Paris Motor Show. With clear influences from the MP4-12C, everything that could be done to attract even more attention has been done, and then some.

The rear is possibly the part that draws the most praise, with an extreme arrangement of diffusers and a sizeable central exhaust outlet. As for the front… am I the only one, or does the drawing look somewhat out of proportion? Either way, there is no doubt that McLaren has shown its craft with an extreme design that curiously features lights shaped like the brand’s logo.

In terms of engines, it will keep the same V8 as the MP4-12C, except that this time its power has been raised to more than 800 horsepower for the version without KERS and over 1,000 for the model that incorporates KERS, which the brand has not yet finished developing. With such power, acceleration would be under 2.3 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating car in the world.

The price, the price… we always leave it for last, but it is part of the lore of these cars; for those interested, you will need to shell out more than 1.5 million in green bills to get one, and it seems there will be only about 500 units built.
