The Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG from 2011 will be a tribute to the 1971 300 SEL 6.8

Retro styling generally works because many people who love cars feel a certain nostalgia for earlier models that made a before-and-after impact. A few days ago we saw how the public preferred the Lancia Delta HF Integrale over other, more recent models in a survey carried out in Great Britain.
And it seems Daimler AG is going to apply the same formula when the next S63 AMG is launched next year. The new incarnation of the S63 will be similar in its colours to a model that became iconic for the brand: the 1971 300 SEL 6.8, which competed in the 24 Hours of Spa.
The styling will include the exact same colour scheme and even the advertising that the 1971 car had. Although both models have a V8 engine, the S63 comfortably beats the old model in power, torque and consumption, despite having slightly less displacement (6.8 vs 5.5). The only area where the old Mercedes stands out is top speed, around 20 km/h more than the current one in race configuration.
