It is set to be unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Show, but before it begins we’ll be able to see it in this image gallery. I’m talking about the Mercedes C450 AMG Sport, the German brand’s new model that will sit a little below the Mercedes C63, but it is a car worth keeping an eye on and one that many of us would like to have in our garage.

This new model features a tuned version of the Mercedes 3.0-litre petrol V6 with turbocharging, producing 362 CV at 5,500 revolutions per minute. As for peak torque, it is rated at 517 Nm across a rev range between 2,000 and 4,200 rpm. All this power reaches the wheels through a modified 7G-Tronic gearbox, a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It also has four-wheel drive, provided by the 4Matic system.

Top speed, in both the saloon and estate versions, is in the region of 250 km/h, electronically limited, and the 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 4.9 and 5.0 seconds, depending on the bodywork. We’ll learn the rest of the details in depth at the Detroit Show, but we’ve already found out a few things ahead of its presentation.

For example, the addition of an improved suspension system, as well as the braking system and the electronic driving aids we are seeing in the new Mercedes models. On the outside, one of its versions features a sportier design, with redesigned bumpers, a black paint finish, a discreet rear spoiler on the boot in the case of the saloon and one on the roof for the estate. As for the wheels, the Mercedes C465 AMG Sport rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, shod with 225/45 tyres at the front and 245/40 at the rear.

Mercedes aims to position this model against rivals such as the BMW 335i M Sport and the Audi S4, although it is said that BMW has taken up the challenge and is preparing a model to increase its presence in this segment. We will see how this model turns out and the responses that will keep coming from other manufacturers.
