Every time Mercedes presents a new generation of the S-Class, the luxury and executive saloon market is shaken up. It is the model to follow, the one that previews the technology that will be available in 5-6 years for the rest of “ordinary” vehicles. Without a doubt, it is one of the cars that generates the most interest, and judging by what the new generation promises, waiting until 2013 is going to feel very long.

As is tradition at Mercedes, the S-Class will be the one to carry the latest technological systems that the German brand is currently developing. Among others, we can highlight the PRE-SCAN active suspension, the DiesOtto engine or the plug-in hybrid version (previewed with the Vision S500 Plug-in-hybrid). But in this article I am going to focus on the interior.

According to the latest news from the German house, the 2013 S-Class will feature a revolutionary and innovative interior design. Mercedes’s interior design chief, Hartmut Sinkwitz, has said that this radical change in the look of the interior will surely influence future models on the car market. Its style will be based mainly on the lines marked by the F800 Style prototype.

One of the most important changes will be the elimination of the rotary central controller, which will be replaced by a new interface. This system will be made up of a series of small cameras that analyse hand movements to understand and carry out the user’s commands.

Sinkwitz explains that “in most cases you have to leave certain design elements out of the final result, or you are forced to use others, either for cost reasons or for brand identity issues. But this time it will be different. It will be a clean design”.

On the other hand, it is said that the S-Class will also incorporate an advanced driver-vehicle communication system, nicknamed SERVO-HMI (Human Machine Interface), which will consist of a virtual assistant capable of responding to the human voice and even of holding a simple conversation with the driver.
