The MINI E 2020 will be officially unveiled on July 9, and the company is working to build excitement by publishing a new teaser, this time in the form of a video. The MINI Cooper SE 2020 will see the light of day during the first days of July, but to whet the appetite, the brand has released a video called “Charged with Passion“.

This teaser in video form shows some of the brand’s most iconic models before offering a few glimpses of its upcoming electric vehicle. Unfortunately, there is not much to see apart from the charging port and the familiar shape of the hatchback.

MINI has not said much about the electric model, but it has stated that the MINI Cooper SE 2020 will have an inventive spirit and an iconic design. The brand has also touched on environmental aspects, saying customers can expect “peace of mind knowing that you are not only helping to make our roads quieter and the air we breathe cleaner, but also that the days of visiting petrol stations are over.”

While MINI has been cautious with the details, pre-orders are already being accepted in countries such as Germany, France, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands. Its website has also suggested that the model could reach Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and even the United States.

MINI Cooper SE 2020, MINI goes electric

After many attempts and numerous electric concepts presented years earlier, back in 2010 and 2012, the MINI Cooper SE 2020 will enter production next November. A few weeks ago, the model was spotted during testing, driving through the streets of several cities. These snapshots have revealed that the model will stand out for featuring a fully closed grille with a yellow stripe.

The color yellow will also have its place on the mirror housings and the four-spoke light alloy wheels. The full details of the MINI electric car will arrive during next July, but everything points to the MINI Cooper SE 2020 being equipped with a 33 kWh lithium-ion battery that will allow the model to have a range of close to 185 kilometres on a single charge.

These figures are not far from current standards. Furthermore, the MINI Cooper SE could be powered by an electric motor of 135 kW, or roughly 184 CV, which comes from its sibling, the BMW i3. It was developed by the German group and will have a maximum torque of 270 Nm. In addition, power will be sent to the model’s front axle. It is worth noting that this powertrain is somewhat weaker than the one currently fitted to the Chevrolet Bolt and the Nissan Leaf Plus.

We will have to wait until July 9 to learn more details about MINI’s first electric car. The MINI Cooper SE will be presented on the 3-door bodywork. Its dimensions are almost identical to those of a conventional MINI Cooper S.
