The new Kia Sorento gets a preview with new images
Kia has unveiled teasers of the new Sorento, the fourth generation of the Korean SUV that will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show
The new Kia Sorento is set to put back in the spotlight the largest SUV in the Korean brand’s range. The third generation, launched in 2015, has already become somewhat outdated and is not holding its own against its rivals as it should. The manufacturer is therefore developing the fourth generation, whose official presentation is scheduled for 3 March at the Geneva Motor Show.
Although there is still not much information about the new SUV from Kia, the brand has revealed two new teasers that show the first design details.
Looking at them, the largest SUV in the brand’s range seems set to adopt a new design with more robust shapes, so it appears to follow the line of the Kia Seltos. As a result, there is a front end with a smaller horizontal grille than in the previous generation and new daytime running lights that underline the lower part of the bumper.
On the other hand, the rear will also feature a much more muscular design that moves away from rounded forms in favour of much straighter ones. Proof of this are the new rear lights, which have square shapes and a light signature with two twin vertical lines.
The new Kia Sorento will come with an ECO label
As we mentioned earlier, no official details about equipment are known yet, but the brand has revealed that the new Kia Sorento will feature the latest technology in driver assistance systems and updated connectivity.
As for its engines, the new Kia Sorento will offer petrol and diesel versions. The diesel versions will most likely be paired with a mild hybrid system, as its smaller sibling, the Kia Sportage, has done. With these, it would gain the benefits of the DGT ECO label.
In addition, it could offer a new PHEV variant with more than 40 kilometres of electric range, which would earn it a place on our list of the best plug-in hybrid SUVs arriving in 2020.
We will have to wait until the 2020 Geneva Motor Show opens its doors to learn all the official details of the new Kia Sorento. What seems clear is that the leap will be big in every respect, and the brand intends to continue the commercial success of an SUV that has sold more than 3 million units worldwide since the first generation arrived in 2001.
