The new Lynk & Co 05 will arrive as a SUV Coupé in mid-2020

The new Lynk & Co 05 will reach the market in mid-2020 with a distinctive SUV Coupé shape. The new model arrives as the fifth member of the brand’s lineup.

The brand Lynk & Co from Geely has released the first official images of its new SUV Coupé on its social media profiles. Everything points to it using the 05 nickname, and the new model is expected to debut in China, specifically during the first half of 2020.

In this way, it will join the Lynk & Co 01, the Lynk & Co 02, the Lynk & Co 03 saloon and the upcoming hatchback, Lynk & Co 04.

As Lynk & Co has accustomed us so far, the model name does not refer to its size but to its launch order: it will be the brand’s fifth model. Technically speaking, however, the 05 is the “coupé” version of the Lynk & Co 01 SUV.

The three photos published by the Chinese carmaker reveal a family-oriented front design with the brand’s grille and headlights. What interests us most is the side view, which reveals a sloping roofline together with an interesting treatment of the C-pillars.

Lynk & Co 05, this is the new member of the family

Seen from this angle, the Lynk & Co 05 reminds us of the electric Polestar 2. At the rear, the new SUV coupé adopts horizontal taillights with a brand-specific LED signature, as well as an aggressive bumper that incorporates two round exhaust pipes on each side and a diffuser in the middle.

As with the rest of the young Lynk & Co range, the 05 is based on the CMA platform developed jointly by Geely and Volvo. At 4,592 mm, the model is slightly longer than the Lynk & Co 01 but has the same wheelbase of 2,734 mm. The model will also offer numerous customisation options, starting with decorative inserts to create striking contrasts, paint combinations and even different lightweight alloy wheel designs.

Mechanically, the new Lynk & Co 05 will be offered with three petrol engines that are powerful and deliver performance on a par with its bodywork design: the 2.0-litre T5 turbo petrol with a maximum output of 235 CV, and the 1.5-litre turbo unit in two variants, one with 48-volt MHEV mild-hybrid technology and a maximum output of 177 CV, and another conventional version with 190 CV.

In addition to its local market in China, the Lynk & Co plan is to sell its products in Europe and the United States within two years. We will see how that unfolds soon enough, but at the very least the carmaker will fill those theoretical showrooms with a suitable line-up of crossovers and coupés to appeal to every taste.
