The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class could hide its door handles in the bodywork
Mercedes-Benz continues working on the development of the new S-Class, a vehicle that has been spotted at the Nürburgring trying to hide a detail of its doors

We live in an era in which the technology equipped in contemporary cars is hard to surpass. Models such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class are a true marvel of the progress the sector has made, and what turns them into vehicles capable of approaching perfection. It is no coincidence that the star brand has made sure the next generation of its most opulent saloon is even more spectacular, which encourages us to consider the test mules spotted a few weeks ago driving on the asphalt of the Nürburgring.
It is true that the Green Hell is not terrain where vehicles of the S-Class’s character feel very comfortable. However, the AMG name always helps make the formula a little spicier and capable of turning the star’s saloon into a car far more agile than its appearance might suggest.
But today it is not the future sporting variants of the S-Class that concern us, but a detail shown by one of the test mules that did not go unnoticed. The engineers at Mercedes have truly had to excel to turn an almost technologically perfect vehicle into an even more advanced car, and this aspect that has caught our attention may well be key.

If we look closely, and if the camouflage does not prevent us from making it out, we will notice a rather curious feature on the doors of the Mercedes S-Class. A sort of black box covers the door handles, a clear sign that the engineers have concentrated much of their efforts on revolutionising the way to access the interior of their most luxurious saloon.
Although the German firm has not yet revealed any data about its new S-Class, we can anticipate two aspects worth considering. The first is that this cover may have the task of hiding handles that are concealed within the bodywork itself, a solution we have already seen on more models and which not only provides a cleaner and more elegant look but also improves aerodynamics; the second and last is that we may be about to witness a more advanced and secure system, which would require, for example, the owner’s fingerprint to gain access to the vehicle.

Be that as it may, Mercedes-Benz is working hard on the development of this next generation of the S-Class, a vehicle that has always stood out for combining technology and luxury with great refinement. For now, launch dates are unknown, but everything suggests that it will be mid-next year when the star brand unveils the renewal of its favourite son.
