The New Mercedes EQS Is Spotted Alongside the Vision EQS

The new Mercedes EQS is spotted early and camouflaged next to the concept that left the public speechless at last year’s CES.

The Mercedes EQS appears in these photographs alongside the already famous concept, the Mercedes Benz Vision EQS, a 100% electric car that drew so much attention at the CES 2019.

Two models, debatable similarities

The marketing campaign surrounding the upcoming Mercedes EQS is starting to “roll”. This time it comes accompanied by the Mercedes Vision EQS, a completely futuristic concept that serves as the manufacturer’s way of showing the public its long-term plans.

Next to it, camouflaged, is the long-awaited Mercedes EQS, wrapped in camouflage paint, in an attempt not to reveal “all its secrets” and to cover its bodywork as well as possible.

The images were posted by the German manufacturer’s own channels across its various online touchpoints.

Thanks to these photos, we can see that the final result of the Mercedes EQS is quite faithful to the original concept, although, to be honest, and as is usually the case, the Vision EQS concept remains much more attractive to the eye.

Setting this small detail aside, if we look at the shape of its bodywork, especially from the side, we can see that from its bonnet, across the roofline, all the way to the tail, it bears a strong resemblance to the Vision EQS.

It is true that the production model looks taller and longer than the concept, however this will only add more habitability and space, which in a saloon of this class is a positive.

The wheels also change from the concept. These are black, with a “boring” tone that, in my view, is dull. I think using the Vision EQS wheels would be realistic and would give excellent results.

The front headlights also differ from the concept. They lack the three thin LED “strips” that dominated the Vision EQS’s lighting, and here a more classic approach is chosen, which takes away from its avant-garde feel.

The rear is also different in design, especially, once again, if we pay close attention to its lights, where unfortunately a more classic look has been adopted.

Classicism vs futurism

No details are known about its electric motorisation, however a photo of the steering wheel has leaked, which also has nothing to do with the one we saw in the concept.

In short, it is still early to draw conclusions about the electric saloon from Mercedes, yet one thing seems clear: the futuristic look has been ruled out, and classicism has been chosen instead. In my view, a mistaken decision.
