The new Mercedes-Maybach Class S is set to delight eccentric and wealthy buyers
The Mercedes-Maybach Class S is, in effect, the interpretation of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class for a customer base that is, to say the least, very peculiar
Maybach, a brand associated with a customer stereotype, a movie scene, a music video by the artist of the moment… well, yes. With the presentation of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the adaptation and reinterpretation of the flagship of elegance, comfort and exclusivity of the star brand becomes the Mercedes-Maybach Class S, the flagship of ostentation and eccentricity.

Be that as it may, this car has a specific clientele. In fact, of the 60,000 units built and sold since 2015, when the outgoing version was presented, the main markets are China, Russia, South Korea, the United States and Germany. Indeed, in the Asian giant, sales growth has kept pace with the creation of new fortunes, rising by 10 percent.
The reinterpretation of the S-Class according to Maybach standards
This new Mercedes-Maybach Class S is based on the Mercedes-Benz saloon. From there, the Mercedes-Maybach Class S sets dimensions that establish the precedent for its lack of discretion: 5.47 metres long, 1.92 metres wide and 1.51 metres high. But, without a doubt, where its architecture has the greatest impact is in the wheelbase which, at 3.39 metres, increases the wheelbase by 18 cm compared with the longest-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class, resulting in a more spacious cabin. Above all for the rear seats, the top priority of Maybach models.

In fact, among the advantages or substantial differences with the S-Class, the Maybach comes equipped, as standard or optionally, with systems as exclusive as active noise cancelling, an MBUX with facial recognition and manual laser tracking to anticipate and interpret the user’s commands, up to five digital screens, seats with massage function and heating in the neck area, electrically operated rear doors, which are larger than those of the Mercedes due to the longer wheelbase and the added space and comfort for the rear passengers…
As we said, the Mercedes-Maybach Class S focuses on the rear-seat occupants, two of them, but for the driver, possibly the owner’s chauffeur, you may be interested to know which fuel types it offers, since it comes with both diesel engines, of 286 or 330 CV, and petrol engines of 367 or 435 CV, the same powertrains as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It is associated with the EQ Boost electrification system, ISG, which adds 15 kW of power to the combustion engine, 4Matic all-wheel drive and air suspension…

The price of the new Mercedes-Maybach Class S has not been published. What has been announced is that it will go on sale before the end of 2020, and that in Germany the first units will arrive in spring 2021.
