Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid Cars ECO SUV
The new Mitsubishi Outlander has already been teased
Mitsubishi has just announced the first teaser of the new Mitsubishi Outlander, a model due in February but whether it will reach Europe is still unknown.
Mitsubishi is one of the brands that has conquered the automotive sector with a PHEV vehicle, the Mitsubishi Outlander. This has been possible thanks to a value for money that is hard to beat, but the Japanese SUV’s time has come and it is about to be updated. The main rivals of the Outlander have already received their respective updates, so Mitsubishi had no choice but to renew its favourite child in order to keep up with the passing of time.
With this in mind, the Japanese manufacturer has just released a first teaser in which we can make out much of the new Outlander‘s appearance. Of course, as is customary in these circumstances, the three-diamond brand has tried to prevent it from being seen in full, forcing us to wait until next February.
Mitsubishi announced some time ago that the new Mitsubishi Outlander 2021 would arrive early in the year, with the aim of taking over from its predecessor as soon as possible. However, after learning that the Japanese firm might be considering ending sales in Europe, we do not know whether this new generation of Mitsubishi’s SUV will hit the roads of the old continent.
Be that as it may, we are looking at an innovative vehicle that clearly draws inspiration from the Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer, a prototype we saw at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. This is evident from the front, where an imposing grille with chrome details sits between slim, elongated LED headlights. We also notice dimensions similar to those of the previous generation, which suggest that the new Outlander will remain an SUV with certain off-road pretensions.
As far as mechanics are concerned, we can expect a PHEV layout combining a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined power output of around 250 CV. Of course, the plug-in hybrid nature of the Mitsubishi Outlander will allow it to enjoy a 100% electric range, which could reach up to 60 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.
For now, Mitsubishi has not issued any official statement regarding the sale of the new Outlander on our continent, a model that we do know will reach the United States and Canada. But given the commercial success the current generation enjoys in Europe, we suspect the Japanese firm’s intentions could change. Time will tell.
