The new Nissan Leaf will arrive in Europe in April

After Nissan failing to achieve very good sales of the Nissan Leaf worldwide, the company has decided to introduce changes to try to alter the model’s sales strategy. The new Leaf, with changes that make it more efficient and with new, more affordable variants, has already gone on sale in Japan and the USA, and its arrival in Europe is announced for April.

With a few small changes specific to the European market, the new Leaf will offer what many customers were asking for: more range and shorter charging times. Energy management will be improved, as will the recovery of energy during braking, and the car’s drag coefficient will be increased.

Nissan has not yet released figures for the improvements we are mentioning, but it seems range will rise by 14%. This means that, strictly speaking in numbers, the previous range of 175 kilometres will improve to 210 kilometres. It is not a radical gain (which, as always, will depend on driving habits), but every bit helps.

For those who do not have a fast charger and must use a conventional plug, Nissan also announces that the time to recharge the batteries to full capacity will be four hours with the new model.

The Leaf trims that will reach our continent will be similar to those sold elsewhere, with the addition of a new entry-level trim. That is to say, Nissan will add a new trim, called S, which sits below the already known SV and SL.

The prices of the new version in Europe are estimated to be around 25,000 euros, already counting the incentives offered for buying electric cars. There are no final prices yet; we can only say that, for reference, in Spain a Leaf currently costs from 36,900 euros.
