Nissan seems to be close to renewing one of its most sporting models aimed at enthusiast buyers: the 370Z. The current version of the Japanese sports car began production in 2009 and is starting to need an update so as not to fall behind. Its replacement will arrive in the form of a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.

The design of the new Z concept will adopt a more aggressive language based on the 2017 GT-R restyling, including a wider and more imposing front grille. The proportions of this prototype will be similar to those of the current 370Z, but the change in design of the roof, rear doors and bonnet will make it a different model.

As for engines, the concept could receive three types of powertrains. The base engine would be a three-litre V6 producing 300 CV and 295 Nm of torque. The second engine could be the same three-litre twin-turbo V6 currently used in the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport; this unit develops 400 CV and 350 Nm of torque. Both engines would be linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Finally, Nissan could round off the engine range with a hybrid version made possible by combining a V6 petrol engine with an electric motor; this unit could deliver approximately 500 CV.

The production version of the prototype that Nissan will launch at the Tokyo Motor Show will reach the market in 2019. Although its price is not yet known, based on segment and features it could rival the BMW M2 and the Porsche 718 Boxster.
