The new Renault Clio shows us its interior, packed with technology and a higher perceived quality

The compact segment is about to receive the update of one of its most sought-after models: the new Renault Clio. The next generation of the French city car was teased a few days ago, but today Renault has decided to offer us an exclusive preview that reveals many of its novelties. The diamond brand has taken advantage of the buzz generated by the arrival of the new Clio to show us its interior, where design, innovation and technology come together to guarantee an innovative cabin in which we can see how it exudes better quality thanks to certain materials.

With this premise, we can not only openly observe what the new Renault Clio has in store, but also the path the rest of its siblings will follow from now on. At the same time, the diamond brand has taken advantage of the situation to draw on its experience developed over 29 years with its quintessential compact and to offer in this fifth generation important improvements that diligently leave its predecessors behind.

Technology and design: the perfect match

Renault has wanted to take a piece of every single generation of the Clio to incorporate into this one the best of each. This is how we can see the presence of technology more typical of higher segments, something that happened with the first Clio; from the second generation of the French compact it retakes the high standards of habitability and comfort; from the Clio III we can see how it resorts to better quality materials and, last but not least, the French brand promises us a groundbreaking and charismatic design, just as happened in the previous version of this favourite son.

These features gathered from the earlier Clios come together in this latest model, in which its interior is also in charge of representing the essence of the other generations. At first we find a dashboard dominated by a large 9.3-inch screen that will integrate all the vehicle’s functions. At the same time, it introduces the new Smart Cockpit philosophy of Renault, through which the aim is to offer a roomier cabin, a driver-focused instrument panel and better overall ergonomics.

Extending this new design mindset is the fully digital instrument cluster, which will be offered in 7- and 10-inch sizes depending on our taste and needs. The larger version will also include GPS, allowing its users not only to access navigation, but also various menus designed to display information on the TFT screen.

Refined ergonomics and a high level of personalisation

The designers of the French brand have also wanted to offer better ergonomics with this fifth generation of the Clio. In this way, we can see an ensemble seasoned with comfort and minimalism, where seats with a more enveloping shape are fitted, thanks to the side bolsters and a longer seat base.

These are complemented by a dashboard also conceived around the principles of Smart Cockpit. Thus, a foam-covered top; a central strip, upholstered and customisable, and a lower area dedicated to functional elements come together to give life to this more minimalist and stylised zone than in the previous generation. At the same time, this is watched over by a smaller-diameter steering wheel, which seeks to offer a better grip and a clearer view of the instrument cluster.

We should also mention the centre console, which sits higher to make it easier to reach the gear lever, the main attraction of that area. A series of storage spaces have also been provided for passengers, complemented by an inductive wireless charging system for mobile phones.

Finally, Renault will offer its customers the possibility of personalising the new Clio in every respect. This will be possible thanks to personalisation packs for the centre console, dashboard, door panels, steering wheel and armrests, among others. With up to eight different ambiences, countless details of the French compact can be modified at will, something that is combined with the eight colour tones that can be used to illuminate the interior.
