The Mazda CX-8 is the new SUV from the Japanese brand, although it seems it will not yet be sold in the rest of the markets and only one image of it exists

Japan is a separate market in the world of the automotive industry. There are many local manufacturers that launch models designed for their buyers, so they cannot be seen in other countries. One of those models that apparently will only be available, at least for now, in Japan, is the Mazda CX-8. This car is an SUV, like its namesake siblings, and will have a six- and seven-seat configuration, following the rule that seems to be dominating this type of vehicle at present.

According to what has been made public, this model will be built on the same platform as the CX-9, with which it will share the same wheelbase, of 2,930 mm, although it will be slightly shorter than its larger sibling. Specifically, it is expected to have a length 115 mm shorter, while the width will be reduced by 129 mm and the height from the ground will be 170 mm lower than the larger model.

A model for the Japanese market

The CX-9 is not available in Japan, so this will be the largest Mazda SUV in the range in the Asian country. The information is still partial and has not been made fully public, so there are still some things up in the air. But we have learned that the engine that will power this new model is the same 2.2-litre turbo diesel that equips the Mazda6, so it will have a power output of 172 CV and a maximum torque of 410 Nm.

What do we know about the physical appearance of the Mazda CX-8? Well, there is still no image of the bodywork, so we will have to wait a little longer to discover what the manufacturer has in store for its potential Japanese buyers. What we have seen is the interior of the cabin, of which we have the image that heads this article and which you can view in higher resolution in the gallery at the end of it. Let’s hope we can see it better soon.
