The Nissan Ariya Nismo is on its way to Europe

With the Ariya Nismo, the Japanese manufacturer promises superior on-road performance and an improved driving experience in its latest electric SUV.

The Japanese high-performance car maker is back in Europe with the Ariya Nismo. An electric model based on the Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE, which will keep the same 87 kWh battery pack but will incorporate visual improvements as well as changes to the power delivery and torque. For now, its selling price in the European market is unknown, as is the exact launch date.

Coinciding with the celebration of its 40th anniversary, the Japanese high-performance car maker of Nissan has decided to return to Europe, where it was already present for thirty years. In the more recent past, the Japanese manufacturer has presented Nismo versions of the Nissan Leaf that, however, never reached the European market. The Ariya Nismo will therefore represent a change of direction in the company’s strategy in this market.

As can be seen in the images, the modifications made to the front and rear bumpers of Nissan’s electric SUV in its Nismo version give the vehicle a much more radical look. The red decorative stripes are especially noticeable, but all these modifications are not merely aesthetic. Thanks to the aerodynamic improvements implemented, air resistance has been reduced and downforce at high speeds has been improved, thereby substantially enhancing the driving experience.

For those who really enjoy driving

According to the manufacturer, the Ariya Nismo offers much more electrifying acceleration than the Ariya e-4ORCE on which it is based, but this does not make the vehicle difficult to control. Nissan has yet to clarify, however, whether the power of this Nismo variant is the same at 290 kW or, on the contrary, higher. Nevertheless, the Japanese company suggests that the greater performance of this Nismo variant is due to certain adjustments made in combination with new high-grip tyres, so the powertrains are probably the same.

Nissan also highlights the sensation of continuous G-force that this Nismo version offers, with linear acceleration even at higher speeds. The e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system, tuned by Nismo, will improve the distribution of power and torque delivered to the wheels, and drivers can always rely with confidence on the modified brake pads when it is necessary to slow down.

As expected, the modifications made in this Nismo version affect not only the exterior of the vehicle, but the interior has also been redesigned. Red decorative elements on the centre console and in the seat stitching complement an interior in which black predominates, thereby conveying a greater sense of sportiness.

To enjoy the new Ariya Nismo in Europe, however, patience will be required. Nissan will not provide further details about its launch in this market until the end of the year. That is when we will learn its price and the exact launch date, which we imagine could be sometime in early 2025. Nevertheless, to ease the nerves, those interested in this high-performance version of the Ariya will be able to see it in action this coming weekend — 20 and 21 July — at the last Formula E race of this season, which will be held in London.
