The Peugeot 508 SPE will be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show

The most sporty version of the Peugeot 508 will be called SPE, it will be a plug-in hybrid, and its definitive version will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show

A few months ago we told you about the Peugeot 508 PSE, which was going to be the most radical version of the French saloon. At that time, however, everything was rumour, although it is true that we all crossed our fingers for them to become reality.

Well, it seems that as the Geneva Motor Show approaches –from 5 to 15 March– brands are getting ready to make their launches. In fact, it was at last year’s edition of the Swiss show that the lion brand presented the concept that kicked off all the rumours.

It seems that the order of the letters in its name will change, so it will be called SPE instead of PSE. However, the aim is the same: to mention the guys at Peugeot Sport Engineered, the people in charge of tuning this very radical version.

The Peugeot 508 SPE will have a much more aggressive design

In addition, the brand has wanted to show some photos of its new model. In them, we can see a mule with decorative camouflage that aims to make the whole look more spectacular rather than hiding it.

Finally, the rear will also get a slight redesign, with a more muscular rear bumper and a new rear diffuser. It also features new 20-inch alloy wheels and, behind them, we can see a new, larger brake system clamped by a generously sized calliper painted in fluorescent yellow.

Peugeot 508 Spe 4360 CV thanks to the combination of a petrol engine and an electric motor

As we told you when we saw the prototype, the Peugeot 508 SPE will be a plug-in hybrid, so everything suggests it will produce a power output of no less than 360 CV. It seems this figure will be achieved by combining the 225 CV 1.6 PureTech engine with an electric motor placed on the rear axle, creating a four-wheel-drive system.

This same powertrain will be the one used in the most powerful version of the recently presented DS 9. However, it seems that the DS saloon will have a more luxurious focus and be oriented towards comfortable cruising, while the lion brand’s model will be a true specialist on mountain roads.

We will have to wait to learn more details about the new Peugeot 508 SPE, but everything suggests we will once again have a high-performance French saloon taking on the German armada. Considering how much we enjoyed the Peugeot 508 BlueHDI 130 we tested a few months ago, we have no doubt that a version with three times the power will be the definitive one.
