The Porsche 911 GT3 of 2017 will have a more elegant line and a manual gearbox
The Porsche 911 GT3 of 2017 has been spotted at the Nürburgring circuit. The images suggest certain tweaks to the design.
Based on the spy photos from “Autoblog”, we can make out a series of tweaks to the design of this new 911 GT3 that give it a more elegant and aesthetically refined overall look. At the rear, the lights have been revised along with the rear bumper, which now includes a new diffuser. The front has also been redesigned, with more aggressive air intakes in the front bumper and a new front spoiler.

As for the mechanics, the new GT3 will feature a six-speed manual gearbox for the first time since the Porsche 997 911 GT3 went out of production in 2011. Andreas Preuninger, manager of Porsche Motorsports, confirmed during the launch of the 911 R that the new GT3 will use the same gearbox as the latter. Meanwhile, the new Carrera will continue to use turbo engines in most of its range, except for the GT3 version, which will keep the current 3.8-litre naturally aspirated engine.
Elsewhere, Porsche has recently been testing the new 911 RSR at Sebring, which will compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). It has been confirmed that this race car will have a mid-engine layout. You can see and hear the car running on the Sebring circuit below:
